Volunteer Opportunities Adults 55 and older are invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County non-profits, public agencies and schools. Accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and mileage reimbursement is available. If you are interested in any of the following positions, please call RSVP at 271-0255 weekdays (9AM- 1PM) or visit our office at 471 Sutton Way, Suite #202, in Grass Valley. Friendly Visitors Volunteers are needed for 1 to 2 hours once a week to visit seniors in our community who have become isolated due to the loss of a loved one or because they no longer drive. A short social visit helps keep our Nevada County neighbors connected to the community and living independently in their own home. Ceramics Assistance Help is needed cleaning green ware and detailing ceramic pieces for convalescent home residents. Cashier Friendly cashiers are needed Thursday and or Friday for 3 – 4 hour shifts. Additional tasks include working with the public and helping around the thrift store. A volunteer with a truck or trailer is needed to pick up donated items. Greeter Greeters are needed to collect admission and make change during the Nevada County Fair August 8 – 12. Assistance is also needed explaining the history of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad to visitors. Receptionist- South County If you enjoy working with people help is needed Thursday and or Friday greeting the public and providing information and maps about Nevada County. Drivers Help is needed delivering nutritional noontime meals to homebound seniors in our community. A commitment of 2 hours one day a week is all that is needed to support this important program and don’t worry mileage is reimbursed. Sierra Storytelling Volunteer Assist with various duties at the Sierra Storytelling Festival July 20-22. Volunteers should enjoy people and be able to make change. Shifts are 2-3 hours. Assistant to the Director Help the Executive Director of the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center with office tasks and event planning one afternoon a week.
