Allows caregivers to take a rest (respite) from caregiving duties with the help of a Certified Nursing Assistant, Program Assistant and volunteers. Program offered Wednesdays and Fridays, five hours each day. On Friday, members of the Respite Cooperative (family caregivers of Respite participants) lead a variety of program activities including exercises, games and singing. Lunch is offered.

The Cordova Neighborhood Church offers a drop-in respite program called the C.L.U.B. (Caring, Laughing, Understanding, Belonging). The C.L.U.B. meets at the church in Rancho Cordova on Mondays and Tuesdays. The program’s purpose is to give respite to caregivers and socialization and loving care to care receivers (program participants). Some participants are not able to talk, read, write or walk without assistance. All are encouraged to participate in program activities at levels with which they are comfortable. A donation of $10 a day helps cover the cost of a hot, nutritious lunch and activities.

The Triple R Adult Day Program has been run by the City of Sacramento since 1992. As a social adult day program, Triple R specializes in providing care for people with moderate to severe dementia. Our daily program includes personal care assistance, engaging in activities such as art, dance, gardening and exercise and management of difficult dementia behaviors.

The Ombudsman Program provides information and complaint resolution for residents of long term care facilities in the seven counties of Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Yolo, Yuba and Sutter. In addition to paid staff, the ombudsman program recruits and trains an average of 65 volunteers who complete extensive training and volunteer at least 20 hours per month assisting residents in long term care facilities. Ombudsmen are trained to receive and investigate reports of suspected abuse.

Two staff persons act as Job Developers in the Senior Employment Program, as well as providing Job-Readiness workshops which teach Application, Résumé and Interview techniques. The statewide Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) assists individuals and families with Medicare problems and other health insurance concerns. Through individual appointments and through community education, volunteer counselors who are trained and registered provide objective information on Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, managed care, long-term care planning and health insurance. The HSNC office provides HICAP services in El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties.

Catholic Charities operates the Cathedral Neighborhood Senior Center, the only drop-in site for seniors located in downtown Sacramento. Catholic Charities will collaborate with the SRO collaborative Project of Transitional Living and Community Support, Inc. (TLCS) and has formed the Downtown Senior Outreach Program. The program will provide comprehensive assessment, case management and falls prevention assessment services to seniors 60 years of age and older. The targeted populations are seniors who live alone in the 14 single-room occupancy hotels in downtown Sacramento.

Established in 1975, the Sacramento Senior Companion Program recognizes the desire of homebound seniors to remain safely and happily in their own homes. The activities of the Senior Companion may include visiting clients in their homes, adult day care centers and group settings, offering transportation to needed medical appointments, senior nutrition centers or shopping, providing socialization / companionship and respite care for the spouse or primary caregiver, assisting with correspondence, paying bills, obtaining community resources, translation / interpretation and other related tasks, and providing social experiences that foster feelings of well being, self-acceptance and positive self-image.
