Crisis Line: (800) 231-4024 Joan Parks, Program Administrator The Elder Abuse Prevention Project provides training for paid workers in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE’s) including instructions on how to complete mandated elder abuse reports of suspected abuse. Ombudsman Services The Ombudsman Program provides information and complaint resolution for residents of long term care facilities in the seven counties of Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Yolo, Yuba and Sutter. In addition to paid staff, the ombudsman program recruits and trains an average of 65 volunteers who complete extensive training and volunteer at least 20 hours per month assisting residents in long term care facilities. Ombudsmen are trained to receive and investigate reports of suspected abuse.

Two staff persons act as Job Developers in the Senior Employment Program, as well as providing Job-Readiness workshops which teach Application, Résumé and Interview techniques. Job resource information is available, and computer training is by referral. Through individual appointments and through community education, volunteer counselors who are trained and registered provide objective information on Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, managed care, long-term care planning and health insurance. The HSNC office provides HICAP services in El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties.

Registered nurses help train the patient and caregiver(s) in the use of medication disbursement machines in their homes and provide follow-up assessments quarterly.
Minor Home Modifications and Repairs Placer Independent Resource Services (PIRS) 11768 Atwood Road, Suite 29, Auburn, CA 95603 Phone: (530) 885-6100 Don Wixon, Program Coordinator PIRS is a nonprofit independent living center whose mission is to advocate, empower, educate the community, and provide services for people with disabilities enabling them to control their alternatives for independent living. The Home Modification/Repair services enable seniors to reduce the risk of falls and to assist with maintaining independence at home. Services include installation of grab bars, ramps, levered faucets, handles, or other controls, as well as minor home repairs such as leaking faucets, minor electrical repairs or reinforcing steps.

Home-Delivered Meals provide hot, nutritious lunches for adults 60 and older, who are homebound and unable to prepare meals alone.

Box 4152, Truckee, CA 96161 Phone: (530) 550-7600 Sarah Deardorff, Executive Director Home-Delivered Meals are delivered to homebound seniors over the age of 60, and disabled adults residing with seniors, who are unable to cook, shop or prepare food for themselves. Frozen meals are also delivered on Friday for weekends. Eligibility restrictions apply.
