The Elder Abuse Prevention Project provides training for paid workers in Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE’s) including instructions on how to complete mandated elder abuse reports of suspected abuse.

The Ombudsman Program provides information and complaint resolution for residents of long term care facilities in the seven counties of Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Yolo, Yuba and Sutter. In addition to paid staff, the ombudsman program recruits and trains an average of 65 volunteers who complete extensive training and volunteer at least 20 hours per month assisting residents in long term care facilities. Ombudsmen are trained to receive and investigate reports of suspected abuse.

The statewide Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) assists individuals and families with Medicare problems and other health insurance concerns.   Through individual appointments and through community education, volunteer counselors who are trained and registered provide objective information on Medicare, Medicare supplemental insurance, managed care, long-term care planning and health insurance.  The HSNC office provides HICAP services in El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba Counties.

Senior Lunch Program provides hot, nutritious lunches for adults 60 and older throughout Nevada County in a congregate setting. Home-Delivered Meals provide hot, nutritious lunches for adults 60 and older, homebound and unable to prepare meals alone.

Senior Center Lunch Program meals are served Monday through Friday, 12 - 1 PM. Call for the location.

Home-Delivered Meals are delivered Monday homebound seniors over the age of 60, and disabled adults residing with seniors, who are unable to cook, shop or prepare food for themselves. Frozen meals are also delivered on Friday for weekends. Eligibility restrictions apply.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Nevada County recruits, screens and places over 450 volunteers 55 years and older in volunteer assignments that match the skills and interest of the volunteer and serve to meet community needs at over 80 different locations including the Empire Mine, Thrift shops, library, police and sheriff and many other public and private nonprofit settings in Nevada County.

Telecare provides Paratransit transportation in Western Nevada County for ADA qualified individuals. This “door-to-door” service is provided by skillful professional drivers in wheelchair accessible vehicles and through volunteer drivers available on a limited basis for out-of-town and out-of-ADA corridor trips. Additional programs are available for qualified seniors (60 and over) and persons with disabilities including the A4AA funded Sunday Service for Seniors Program, A4AA funded Senior Voucher Program, and T.H.E. VAN PROGRAM, partially funded through United Way of Nevada County.
