Governing Board

A4AA is governed by a 17-member Joint Powers Authority.  It is composed of representatives of boards of supervisors and appointed community representatives from the seven counties in the planning and service area (PSA).  The Board sets policy and is responsible for insuring the mandates of the Older Americans Act are performed by A4AA.

Governing Board meetings are held monthly, generally the second Friday of the month and are open to the public.

 

 

Advisory Council

The 35-member Advisory Council, composed of representatives of the seven counties, advises A4AA and the Governing Board on all matters relating to the development and implementation of the area plan.  Members are appointed by county boards of supervisors, commissions on aging and nutrition project councils.  The Advisory Council serves as an advocate body on behalf of older persons residing within the planning and service area.  

Advisory Council meetings are held monthly, generally the third Thursday of the month and are open to the public. Meetings alternate among the seven counties in A4AA’s service area.

 

Area 4 Agency on Aging is currently recruiting individuals to serve as Advisory Council Members.

Advisory Council Members serve in a voluntary capacity and shall carry out advisory functions and serves the following purposes:

  • Serve as principal advocate body on behalf of senior citizens.
  • Advise A4AA staff on matters relating to development and administration of the Area Plan including goals, objectives and funding recommendations
  • Advise and make recommendations for appropriate action to the A4AA Governing Board on matters relating to development and administration of the Area Plan and operations conducted.
  • Assist A4AA by providing support and input in ascertaining the changing needs of the elderly in member’s respective counties.
  • Facilitate communication between the counties of A4AA.

Term of Membership: Appointments are for a three year term, ending on June 30.

Meetings & Time Commitment: Advisory Council meetings are held monthly, generally the third Thursday of the month and are open to the public. Meetings alternate within the seven counties of A4AA service area. Including preparation, travel time, general meetings and committee work, etc., an average of 8-10 hours per month is expected.
