JOB DESCRIPTION
RSVP VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR Grass Valley Office
DEFINITION
Under the general direction of the Retired Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) Project Director, the Volunteer Coordinator is a non-exempt employee responsible for the planning and implementation of volunteer recruitment and placement of seniors 55 years and older in Nevada County. The Volunteer Coordinator screens and places volunteers in community and non-profit agencies throughout Nevada County. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Enroll new volunteers, interview and determine preferences. Explain current opportunities. Contact stations for volunteer to visit. Explain time and expense reporting system. Follow-up with volunteer and/or station for confirmation of placement. Enter volunteer and placement information in database upon receipt of first timesheet.
2) Perform recruitment tasks, including preparation of weekly volunteer ads for newspapers and online recruitment sites including VolunteerMatch.org. Make presentations to clubs and organization including television and radio interviews on latest job opportunities
3) Communicate regularly with volunteer stations on status of current volunteers, new programs offered and additional volunteer needs. Update stations on new RSVP programs. Complete station visit forms when appropriate.
4) Coordinate Volunteer Recognition event annually. Coordinate various special events as needed.
5) Submit station highlights, current volunteer applications and lists of new volunteers for newsletter.
6) Collect and screen group time sheets as needed. Track time and expense reporting by volunteers and contact volunteers when necessary.
7) Assist with day-to-day functions of RSVP office and supervision and coordination of RSVP office volunteers.
8) Assist Project Director with required reports and collection of data.
9) Attend various meetings as needed.
10) Prepare and report volunteer program activities to RSVP Advisory Council.
11) Other duties as assigned.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS
This position receives direction from the RSVP Project Director and provides volunteer recruitment and placement of volunteers for RSVP of Nevada County. The position requires skills in effective communication, careful interviewing of volunteers, and public relations. The Volunteer Coordinator must be organized, dependable and have database and volunteer coordination experience. Familiarity with Nevada County non-profit and community agencies highly desirable.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Must have the ability to speak with the public over the telephone and in person; and possess a valid California driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Knowledge of:
- Computer database and word processing applications
- Public relations publicity process
- Special event planning and coordination
- Basic understanding of the agency’s need for volunteers and their proper placement
- Issues relating to seniors and senior volunteering
Ability to:
- Effectively communicate with potential volunteers. Interviewing and listening skills required.
- Communicate clearly in writing and on the phone.
- Work with and relate well to others.
- Carry out fund raising activities and plan events.
- Track new placements and volunteers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
B.A./B.S. from accredited college with degree in community or social services or related field. Experience in supervising staff and volunteers in a public or non-profit agency.
DESIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
General knowledge and interest in human service programs. Experience working and supervising senior volunteers. Respect for others.
CLASSIFICATION
Non-exempt, at-will employee.
Part-time, 20 hours per week.
