In most cases, A4AA makes services available to the seniors in our Planning and Service Area through contracting with local senior service providers. These are experts in the various fields of care who through a competitive bid process, won the right to provide those services to seniors throughout our seven counties. These programs are closely monitored by Area 4 Agency on Aging Program Managers, and may change with our four-year grant cycle.
Additionally, Area 4 Agency on Aging runs some programs “in-house”. These include the A4AA satellite office in Grass Valley; the Senior Employment Program in Sacramento and Placer counties and the InfoVan which travels throughout our seven-county Planning and Service Area (PSA).
Senior Employment Program
Launched in January 2003, the A4AA Senior Employment Program helps find jobs for anyone over the age of 60 in Sacramento and southern Placer counties. Savvy employers know many seniors are healthy, fit, and willing - and bring to the workplace experience, commitment, and a well-honed work ethic. In an era of shrinking work forces, employers value the older worker and welcome the chance to collaborate with Area 4 Agency on Aging on innovative employment.
Job sharing, for instance, satisfies the employer (who gets two sets of energies and talents – often without the need to pay expensive benefits) as well as the senior employee (who may not need benefits and only wants to work part-time).
Two staff persons act as Job Developers in the Senior Employment Program, as well as providing Job-Readiness workshops which teach Application, Résumé and Interview techniques. Job resource information is available, and computer training is by referral
If you live in Sacramento or southern Placer counties, are over the age of 60 and seeking a job, contact Senior Employment at (916) 486-1876, ext. 130.

InfoVan
The InfoVan is a mobile Senior Resource Center, staffed by an outreach specialist familiar with senior issues and able to help older adults to connect with the programs they need.
Since its inception in late 2001, the InfoVan has traveled locally and to rural sites in each of our seven counties, visiting Senior Centers, congregate dining sites, health fairs, community events, churches, job fairs, post offices, and (occasionally) just parked at a crossroads in rural areas where folks drive by and stop. In constant use, often in partnership with our service providers, it has proven to be a valuable way of reaching seniors in need. For more information, contact Lori Howton at (916) 486-1876.
